ANDREA BRUBAKER

Behind all my work is a thread of deep connection to human expression, identity and the spaces and stories that people inhabit and create.

As a social worker with over a decade of experience, I bring a depth of presence and care to every session that goes beyond photography. I know how to hold space for people and I find that changes what's possible in front of a camera. Whatever you’re seeking in photography, my job is to notice and catch the moments and visual opportunities that thread that needle of whatever you’re hoping to convey for yourself, your business, or your own creative work.

Most of the pictures I make are done on analogue film. Film photography is one of life’s little presents - every time I develop a roll of film it’s like I’m a kid again, waiting to relive the beauty and joy of the moments imprinted in that tiny box in my hands.

There’s a lot I could say about what compels me as a photographer. In my soul, I’m an artist and a playful yet contemplative millennial kid who appreciates beauty, and nostalgia, and has an insatiable drive to create imagery that reminds us that there is good in the world. I have also been searching for mirrors my whole life rarely seeing successful photographers who are women of color around me. This and everything else I’ve shared, brings meaning and perspective to the images that I make for my clients.
